Back to work

Hi podmates,

A quick update to let you know where we are. Our things have arrived post-move, and that includes a lot of what makes Drayer Ink functional that we just couldn't bring in a suitcase. We're setting in here, reviewing the pre-production copies, and are generally pushing forward with the Bubble Net process for 2026. We have some meetings in the coming weeks that will help us define timelines and we'll post more specifics as we have them.

Thank you all for sticking with us!

The story of 2025, and Bubble Net in 2026
3 months ago – Sun, Dec 28, 2025 at 12:03:20 PM

Wow, 2025 is almost over!
It has been such an unexpected year for us - instead of delivering our first game and attending a series of US conventions, our business plan was upended by the introduction of unexpected tariffs and a hostile political climate that completely changed our world.
In May, Cat left the USA for good, attending UKGE and then taking a TEFL course in Prague while negotiating a possible employment visa that would allow us to move to the Czech Republic. She spent the intervening months moving between Prague and Scotland, trying to save up enough Schengen allowance to stay in Europe, and attending Tabletop Scotland and Essen. Drayer Ink and its projects were sidelined under the pressure of ensuring our personal survival.
Over six months and thousands of dollars later, things are finally starting to take shape. Cat collected her Czech Employment Card today. Her job with CGE is finally official. George is still waiting for his visa, all our wordly possessions are in a container on a ship, somewhere on the ocean, and our Portland house is on the market.

Months of personal upheaval and separation are already enough of a challenge, but the economic situation also hasn't improved. There's still no stability in the tariffs, and the immense financial risk of importing products into the USA is still beyond our means - but once our house sells, we will be able to move forward.

Our contacts tell us that we likely won't make it into the print queue before Lunar New Year, but assuming our house sells in time, we expect to fulfill not long after that.

The money we raised through the campaign covered printing, manufacturing, freight, graphic design, and a portion of the advertising and promotion we did at conventions, and anticipated fees and taxes. As for the unanticipated tariffs - the funds from our house sale will help offset them, but we will be asking for your help to cover those costs. As with VAT and GST, the import fees and taxes charged by a government are paid by the receiver, not by the source. China doesn't pay the tariffs, we do.

We still have several months of personal upheaval ahead, as our possessions arrive in Europe, George takes his shift waiting for his visa in Edinburgh, and we find our feet in our new country.

We will be doing a full review of Bubble Net and ensuring it meets all the latest requirements (including European regulations), and we will take you with us on that journey.

Again, a huge apology for the delay - this isn't how we pictured this campaign going. But we are so excited about our new direction, and we can't wait to get this game, our beloved Bubble Net, into your hands!
See you in 2026!

State of the Ink 2025
5 months ago – Wed, Oct 22, 2025 at 09:41:17 PM

Hey folks, here's the Autumn update on everything going on with Bubble Net's journey, and us in general.

As many of you know, Drayer Ink is moving to Europe. There are a variety of reasons for this; some business related, some more personal. The key points for you are a) we are not closing, b) we are nearly at the end of that journey (see our game room above, minus games, plus our cat Loki) and c) we are COMMITTED to getting Bubble Net to you.

Conversations have already happened with European fulfillers and distributors, and we feel certain that being able to import the Kickstarter sales to the USA, without weathering the tariffs on the rest of the stock, will put us in a good position. We have established a base of operations in the Czech Republic, and are looking forward to getting the final product to you.

In more personal matters, Cat is at Essen with CGE, doing demos of Wispwood and getting some European convention experience. George is... packing and finalizing paperwork on the last steps of our move.

You've been patient, nay you've been more than patient, and we cannot express how much we appreciate that. We ask just a tiny bit more.

Thank you all again for your support.

Closing in...

Hello all!

Thanks for your patience as we absorb the feedback on the PNP (which is, to a degree, relevant to the full print version). We've largely been focusing on the rulebook over the last few weeks but there are a few self-print details we want to confirm across equipment before we issue a final PNP. We know its a bit old school, not releasing things in beta but a) we're that kind of old and b) we want the best out of the box (well, PDF) experience possible.

To that end, we'd like some feedback on a rules question. Considering the image above, would you say the turquoise bubbles are the LAST five or the FIRST five in the spiral? These seem like small elements but we want the best, least ambiguous ruleset possible.

Help us out by replying below. Thanks podmates!

PNP playtest coming to a close!
7 months ago – Wed, Aug 13, 2025 at 09:47:23 PM

Thank you to all who volunteered to have a go at the PNP playtest files. We're closing out the feedback window this week; if you haven't had a chance to get in your notes, on the files themselves or the rulebook, we'd really appreciate them! There's a general feedback doc provided in the Google, or feel free to email them through directly, whichever works for you.

From this point forward it's touchups and then out to all of you who've been waiting. We're really looking forward to hitting this milestone, and we hope you enjoy the final product.

That's all for now, talk to you soon!
